A dental implant is a hollowed, cylindrical, screw that is placed in the jaw bone. It is used to provide support for a crown or bridge that will be used to replace a missing tooth/teeth.

A dental implant needs to fuse together with the surrounding bone. A dental implant needs to provide solid support for the dental abutment and dental crown that will be placed on the dental implant. The process is called osseointegration – the fusing of new bone growth with the placed dental implant.

Most dental implants in Costa Rica are made out of titanium. Recently, a few dental clinics in Costa Rica starting offering zirconium dental implants.
